Wits Student ICT Survey prize giving on Monday 18 May

Students who participated in our CLTD and eLearning Unit online survey to receive their prizes

The Centre for Learning, Teaching and Development (CLTD) recently conducted an online study to establish Wits studentsaccess and use of technology (for learning and personal use). The findings will help the University and CLTD to better understand the technology needs of students.

The online survey commenced during O-week, 9-13 February 2015, and closed on the 30th of April 2015. Students across the university's faculties and levels of study, undergrad and postgrad, were asked to participate in the online survey. The survey contained questions about what kind of technology students have access to, how often they use it, and how they use it. There has been a very positive response to the survey and in total, 4 526 students participated.

The results of the study are currently being analysed by Professor Christine Woods (Director of CLTD) and Liana Meadon (eLearning Unit) and will be reported to the Senate Teaching and Learning Committee and CLTD Advisory Board. Thereafter, a summary of the findings will be presented to Faculties and students, and posted on the CLTD website.

The iPad competition

At the end of the survey, students had the opportunity to enter a competition for the chance to win a prize. Out of the 4 526 students that completed the survey, 2 957 entered the competition.

For each level of study, 1st year, 2nd year, 3rd year and 4th year/postgraduate students, we have 1 iPad Air, 1 iPod Shuffle and 50 coffee vouchers; a total of 208 prizes. The 208 winners have been pre-selected by means of random selection, using randomization software.

Winners to be announced at prize giving ceremony

On Monday the 18th of May at 1:30 pm in front of the Great Hall we will be conducting the prize giving. The randomly preselected winners in each level of study have been contacted via email to attend the prize giving to receive their prizes.

Come and find out who the lucky new owners of 4 iPads, 4 iPods and 200 coffee vouchers are.
